Would you like to learn more about animals?
Then go to the different meeting points of the zoological garden!!

From Easter to All Saints' day, you can look on the lions and tigers having their snack through the glass tunnels, the lemurs and red pandas having their meal, the giraffes' snack, etc...

During these keeper talks, you will be able to see the animals in action, and to find out more about their life. If you have some questions, seize the opportunity to ask the keepers!

Don' t miss the sea lions' medical training session!

What's that exactly?

Anaesthetizing marine mammals is far more risky than terrestrial mammals: they can remain without air for long periods of time, and under the effects of anaesthetic, they can sometimes "forget" to start breathing again and die.

Therefore, the keepers use the sea lions' natural ability to memorise and carry out simple tasks for medical purposes. They train the animals to accept basic medical treatments such as being touched, having blood taken from them, being weighed, having their teeth checked, drops in their eyes, etc...

This avoids having to stress the animal by catching and restraining it to carry out treatments and, it facilitates the vet' s work as this medical training avoids having to use anaesthetic which is risky and should only be used during painful manipulations like surgery.

Furthermore, medical training is carried out without pressure on the animals: they are rewarded for each good action but are never punished when doing the wrong thing! The animals quickly understand the link between a good action and the reward that follows (fish, playing session& ) and they participate more willingly in subsequent training sessions.
